NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH 2022

If work is performed in awkward postures or with excessive effort, fatigue and discomfort may result. Under these conditions muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels can be damaged. Injuries of this type are known as musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).  Here is one example of an automobile company in Missouri who was fined by OSHA for MSD violations.

Missouri OSHA investigators found workers suffered musculoskeletal injuries of the hand, wrist, and elbow after exposure to ergonomic stressors and risk factors related to the following tasks:

  • repetitive motion in the assembly of automobile seats
  • forceful exertions and awkward postures
  • extended reaching too high or too low for prolonged periods of time.

OSHA cited the manufacturer for one serious health violation and issued a $12,471 fine.

So, how can you prevent similar MSD issues in your company?  Take a look at OSHAcademy's infographic below to learn more!
